POST-COVID-19 ECONOMIC RECOVERY

  • National Treasury has issued a media statement confirming that the ‘bounce back support scheme for businesses’ announced in the 2022 Budget is now operational.

 

STATE CAPTURE

 

JUSTICE

  • The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development has called for public comments on proposals for the categories of people to be deemed competent for appointment as intermediaries under the 2021 Criminal and Related Matters Amendment Act.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL

  • In anticipation of November’s conference of parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment has called for proposals for amendments to Appendix I or II – or ‘any other relevant information for consideration’.
  • The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment has released a report on the findings of a review of the scientific basis for breaching the Saint Lucia Lake estuary mouth in January 2021.

 

PRIVATE SECURITY

  • Public comment is sought on three sets of draft regulations gazetted in one notice and focusing separately on:
    • safeguarding game reserves
    • industry training service providers, and
    • the use of drones.

 

SOUTH AFRICAN LAW REFORM COMMISSION

  • A discussion paper on repealing the Transkeian penal code has been released for public comment, as the next step in a sub-project of the ongoing review of colonial and apartheid legislation.

 

ABALONE FARMING

  • The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition has gazetted a notice exempting the Abalone Farmers Association from certain provisions in Chapter 2 of the Act (prohibited practices) for a further five years, subject to meeting specific transformation targets among other things.
